Chapter Seven

He landed on a deck and walked through a security screen that allowed them to pass.

Azzul carried her into what had to be his quarters, and she tried not to look down until they were completely inside.

“Um, we can go back to the exhibition, or you can go, and I can go into my quarters and think about why my attitude is wrong.”

“No, I believe we should discuss what is happening to you now. It is important.” He settled on a backless couch that was wide and long.

“It is humiliating.”

“It is natural.”

She looked up and scowled. “What?”

He smiled slightly. “It is a natural response, but I have never seen it in action before. You are trying to put a claim on my genes. It is a natural response for a pair of unmated members of my species trying to find a partner.”

He stroked her cheek. “I become hyper-focused on you, and you become the same with me. Hearing about your previous lover made me want to seek them out and tear them in half and comfort you in equal measure.”

She looked at him and asked, “What about the energy waves?”

“Oh, those are just fun. I have never had a female around me that responded to them before. I have always tried, but none of them responded, and then, one day, there is a human who lands in a new acquisition, and she uses pleasure to calm herself, and when I send her the signal, she lights up.”

“The signal?”

He leaned forward and whispered in her ear, “It is the signal that indicates I am interested in sex. Every time I have sent it to you, your body indicates that you are interested in the same.”

She shivered, and her body focused on his breath across her ear. “I have no idea what it is indicating.”

“Can we find out together?”

Keva thought about it. “Would there be any benefit to postponing it?”

“None. It would just frustrate both of us and leave you in a state of insecurity as to what will happen when we do join.”

“So, we should just get it over with?”

He chuckled and licked her ear, and she could swear that his tongue was forked because something wet flicked inside while part of it cruised around the outer edge. “I would not put it that way. I would say we should continue our date, though I cannot prove my rhythm.”

She blushed. “The flying is proof enough. We didn’t fall.”

“Excellent. I am glad you worked out substitute criteria.” His tongue licked at her neck.

“Plus, the signal was pretty on point.”

He chuckled against her skin and the invisible straps on her shoulder. The threads were so fine that she couldn’t see them, but they held up the dress securely.

“I may not fit in you. Would that be a problem?”

She blinked. “Not for me, but will it upset you?”

“It will just mean that I will have to wait a few more days before we can completely join. In the meantime, I can get you used to me so that contact with me will not provoke a fear response.
